In fact, research shows that there is a correlation between the amount of time you spent learning a skill and how easy it is to pick it up again. For example, if you spent hours riding your bike as a kid, as the saying goes – once you get back on that seat, you remember it fairly quickly.
Conversely, if you learn something as an adult and maybe spend just a few months to a year doing it, you do not have the same number or strength in neural connections to draw on when you try to pick it up again later. This is the classic example of college students cramming for a test and doing well and then forgetting most of those answers even just a few days later.
